Kindred Spirits
Lucy Fleet

I told someone once if there were soulmates you would be mine. Soul-tied, bosom friends for life. The Anne to my Diana. We dawdle through discussions of cloud formations and the way light looks flittering through shadowed leaves. We frolic through laughs like meadows and rants of letting go. With each gift and exchange the colours in the world jump out brighter, better.

Distance from you is a sickness.

I think I need a major operation, one only you can perform. The operating table is a tree you point out, against which we sit knee to knee. From here we dissect situations with scalpels and clean-cut incisions. We pour hard truths - an antiseptic, directly onto the wound, it burns kindly.

Together solutions are found                                we              each

All is well.
